CORE COMPETENCIES

THE SITUATION
The business hires a new executive or adopts a different strategic vision/mission/objective.

THE GOAL
Engage consistent communications to maintain the morale of current staff, who may be change resistant.

THE VITAL LINK SOLUTION
This engagement starts by interviewing the executives or committee leaders managing the change to understand the basics such as “why” and “why now.” Additional interviews with the organization and key partners also may be required based on how many will be impacted by this transition. Then, the communications channels are evaluated to understand how employees can receive the messages. Finally, a plan is established to prepare materials, add/revise mediums (website, intranet, company meetings, eBoards) and measure effectiveness.

THE SITUATION
A company grows organically or through a merger/partnership.

THE GOAL
Focus on helping employees understand not only the larger business objective changes, but also the impact on their daily operations.

THE VITAL LINK SOLUTION
Often this type of change includes a larger work space and/or employees located in multiple geographies, which mandates a central stream of communications to keep the business connected. It’s essential to develop timing and strategy for the introductory communications and then push content out frequently until employees show signs of embracing the change and proactively communicating themselves. A balance of content delivered through in-person meetings, intranet, email, newsletters and eBoards will ease the transition.

THE SITUATION
A major initiative or center of expertise is added to the company that requires employee participation.

THE GOAL
Explain the business imperative for this change in a way that motivates employees to participate.

THE VITAL LINK SOLUTION
Typically, a project team or committee is assigned to create the initiative. Communications is the critical element to prepare employees for the change and generate excitement throughout the launch process. This requires thinking not only about what the benefits are for employees, but also how to overcome their natural tendencies for resistance. While preparing launch communications is important to make an impactful first impression; follow-on communications may require a multi-year or phased approach. One time communications never result in employee adoption. Sometimes it will help to engage a focus group of employees for testing how messages resonate within the culture, especially if this is part of a longer-term, behavioral change effort.

Vital Link empowers management with the strategies, program management and tactical implementation required to connect effectively with employees and maintain productivity, especially during periods of transition. Our expertise leverages years of first-hand communications knowledge, working with small- to mid-sized corporations to navigate a variety of changes.
